Description
The Vikles natural trail is located in scenic Lythrodontas, a village that belongs to Nicosia District. The village is built on the foothill of Machairas mountain region and thus it is surrounded a thick forest. Also it has the greatest concentration of olive groves on the island. The trail is linear of 2.7 km length, thus with the return the distance comes up to 5.4 km which needs 1:30 to 2:00 hours to finish it, depending on your speed. The degree of difficulty is easy to moderate and that is due to the continuous gradient changes, where you will come across several minor uphills and downhills. The maximum altitude of the trail is at 526 meters.

Viewpoints
The Vikles natural trail goes through the Machaira forest with several viewpoints. At certain points during the route you will be able to see a panoramic view of the village, farm fields of the area and of course panoramic views of the dense forest of Machairas. At one of the minor mountain peaks there is a kiosk with enough benches, which offers the hiker the opportunity to relax and for sure enjoy a magnificent panoramic 360 view of the surrounding area, where the Pentadaktylos mountain range is visible.
Starting points
The trail is linear and it’s starting point is a few minutes aways from the center of the village by car. In order to get there follow the GPS coordinates as depicted in the table Natural trail information.
Personal comments
I learnt about this path from the famous and traditional way of transferring news, that is from mouth to mouth. A friend learnt from another friend who lives in the village about this beautiful path – the Vikles natural trail. I tried to do my own investigation and find out more about it (like location, distance etc) but there is no information available online. When we reached the village, we asked for more information about the trail and they led us to the starting point.
The trail is truly beautiful and totally worth visiting it. After a 10 minutes hike from the starting point you will come across the kiosk where you will have a panoramic view of the area. As you continue the forest will get better and through the trees you will be able to see the green farm fields of the villagers in the background making the landscape amazing!! Halfway you will cross a bridge, which seems to run a stream when a heavy rain occurs. Additionally, along the way you definitely notice in plenty areas the levanta flower making the scenery totally enjoyable.
Important information: The trail seems to be a Mountain Bike route. There is a possibility to see a local exercising with his/her bike on the route. So have that in mind!
