Description
The floating rock in Cyprus? We all have seen photos of the Kjeragbolten. A boulder or a huge rock if you like, wedged in the mountain’s crevasse in Norway. This floating rock is found in mount Kjerag in the altitude of 984 meters, where tourists hike all the way up to the mountain to take a photo standing on top of that rock with the deep abyss laying below them and the scenic view of the fjords unfolds behind them. A mini but similar landscape of such beauty can be found in Cyprus.
That’s right! The floating rock in Cyprus that reminds the Kjeragbolten of Norway can be found in Paphos district. This remarkable viewpoint is located in a remote area of nearly 3km away from Galataria village at the country church of Saint Nikolaos Galatarias.
Personal comments
We accidentally discovered this while doing a road trip with friends in Paphos and exploring the specific area. What seemed to be a “pit stop” to rest a bit, stretch our legs and charge our batteries so we could continue our excursion, walking closer to the church I couldn’t believe what my eyes were seeing. The “Kjeragbolten” of Cyprus! The church is built in a rocky and isolated area and is decorated with church murals that have been around for centuries. Both the church and the landscape are totally worth visiting.
How to get there
The church of the Saint Nikolaos Galatarias is marked in the Google maps (GPS location: 34.866026256456166, 32.642431569105554) , thus it can be easily found.
