Cape Aspro trail: The incredible white cliffs with amazing views

by Savvas Michail

Description

The stunning and breathtaking white cliffs in Cape Aspro trail provide unprecedented views to the hikers. A different kind of hike, away from the forest and in fact a hike by the sea. A hike that ascends around 227 meters offering continuous and magical views of the endless blue of the sea and probably the steepest white cliffs in Cyprus.

The Cape Aspro trail is located in Pissouri in Limassol district. It is a linear trail with a total distance of ~8km including the return. The elevation gain/loss is 421 (including the return) and is categorized as moderate. The estimated hike time is 3-4 hours.

Viewpoints

This trail is unique of its kind due to its terrain and the views that it provides. The major viewpoints of this hike are two:

  • The endless blue of the sea, watching it from a higher ground. The view is amazing and the feeling is extraordinary!
  • The white cliffs with their vertical line counting almost 250 meters.

Starting points

The trail is in the Pissouri area and the trailhead is located literally next to the Columbia beach hotel. The trail is linear and you will need to return back to the starting point.

There are several other options for extending the trail since the area hosts various trails. One of them is to continue the hike and go to Lahanika beach but it’s a bit dangerous to do so, thus I will not describe it in this article. Another one goes to the Pissouri village center.

Personal comments

The Cape Aspro trail impresses the hiker from the very first moment. A totally different hike than what you may used to do. Even though the maximum elevation is 227 metres, the continuous up and down sum ups the elevation gain to 421 meters. The trail is moderate and has some steep sections. But one thing is for sure, the views are unbelievable! The combination of the white cliffs and the endless blue of the sea forms a breathtaking scenery. Therefore definitely give it a try, it is totally worth the visit.

The trail is exposed to the sun, there is no shade at all, therefore it is best done in the winter or just use a sun lotion. For more scenic views visit the trail on cloudy days!

At the beginning of the trail, there was a small section that was a bit risky. The trail was very narrow and part of it was degraded making it a bit dangerous to pass, since one of the sides is exposed to the sea. But it is passable. The last time I visited the trail was in 2020. If it has been fixed since then, let me know in the comments! The rest of the trail is considered safe, since you are not walking on the edge of the cliffs. The trail path is a few meters away from the cliffs.
